2026 General Municipal Election
The General Municipal Elections for the City are held on the first Tuesday in November of even-numbered years for the purpose of electing a City Mayor and/or Councilmembers or placing special measures and/or bond issues before the voters. Special Elections may be called for the purpose of Measures, Referendums, Initiatives and/or Recalls.
The City Council is made up of a Mayor and four Councilmembers, for a total of five members. The offices of Mayor and City Council are non-partisan. The Mayor serves a term of four years, and each Councilmember serves a four-year term.
At the next City election, to be held on November 3, 2026, the Mayor's seat and two Councilmember seats are up for election.

Eligibility
To be eligible to be elected to office in the City of Hughson, a person must be a qualified voter and a resident of the City for at least thirty (30) days at the time nomination papers are issued as provided for in the Elections Code of the State of California.
Running for Office
The 2026 Candidate Filing Period is July 13th to August 7th, 2026.
If you would like to be included on the ballot for Mayor or City Councilmember in the upcoming election, follow these three steps:
- Contact the City at 209-883-4054. The City Manager can provide information about the availability of filing papers and answer questions regarding nominating petitions and other ballot procedures.
- Arrange to pick up required paperwork.
- Return your completed paperwork before August 7, 2026. If an incumbent does not file for re-election, the deadline will be extended five days for other candidates (not the incumbent). The Candidate Nomination Extension Period is August 8th to August 12th, 2026.
